TOURENFAHRER KTM 1190 Adventure

CB Performance Lifters

First set of lifters didn't last well in the old build. Possibly low levels of zinc, possibly poor manufacture (or a lovely little mix of both).

Either way needed replacement, considered very expensive tool steel lifters but went for the CB lightweight versions.

They are in terms of quality night and day in comparison to the Scat lifters that failed (pitted) previously so fingers crossed they will last better.

FK8 clearanced cam

Cam clearanced for longer stroke crank

Installed the cam FK8 Engle

Dialled in the cam to bearing clearance, set the timing and torqued the cam bolts up.

Using a CSP adjustable timing gear after having numerous issues with cheaper "standard" cam gears. First one gears simply didn't mesh properly with crank and second one the timing was 2 degrees out the wrong way!

CSP Oil Feed Tube

Installed a custom length oil pick up tube from CSP, super quality and great fit.

So much better than those poor fitting extensions sold with deep sumps.

Silverline Bearings -v- Mahle???

Initially ordered some bearings and what was sent was Silverline with the non-grooved centre bearing. Upon fitting the flywheel end bearing was of poor shape with high spots, resulting in a jammed crankshaft when case buttoned up.

Initially I lightly smoothed off the high spots and managed to get a "fit" but again not overly happy with this given the pressures that are exerted on bearings/case.

Made a further order through another supplier and managed to get a set of Mahle? bearings (at almost double the cost), which came with the grooved centre bearing (very pleased).

The Silverline bearings seem to exhibit lots of high and low spots, whereas the more expensive Mahle badged bearings fit precisely and without the need for adjustment! Lesson learnt, on cheap(er) parts!

Back to the Engine Build

New Oil Cooler installed and fit checked against the original fan housing, and aftermarket hoover "bit", seemingly a good fit and will ensure a little more air flow through the cooler.
