2007cc engine general pics

Bases and ram pipes, low level for airbox

Cylinders installed and heads (both sides)

Made some good progress, both sides now on and torqued down.

Also installed pushrod tubes, small amount of sealant used where they seat into the head and case.

Managed to source some "taller" nuts to gain more grip and are stronger than usual supplied rocker nuts (8.8 grade). On a previous engine had a failure here and as such being a bit more cautious.

SCAT rocker covers on to keep it clean in the heads whilst I fettle with the tinware.

Prefer the CSP style but struggle to fit them on my car 1200 64, as they make the engine wider.

EMPI- made in CHINA

I should really learn my lesson of avoiding anything which EMPI is associated with...

Check out the hardware kit below, this nut is a key item for securing the cylinder head, no DIN markings for reassurance and to top it off been made off centre...

VW Heritage refer to it as "Good Quality" hate to think what poor quality looks like...

Rocker post removal

Should have been an easy job, to upgrade the post to a better quality post. However looks like CB Performance had seated them in with thread lock.

The original post was very soft with threads simply not allowing enough grip to torque out. (Threads quickly turned to moosh, hence why I was changing them)

In the end resorted to the extreme but proven method of welding a quality steel 15mm nut on the end to gain some leverage.

Not a great fan of threadlock for this very reason, especially in areas like this where vibration that would unseat a fastener isn't present at any event.

New posts in but would have been whole lot easier, had they not been cemented in with thread lock.

Rocker Geometry

Test fit of 1:4 rocker and current pushrods.

Checking for line up of pushrod and rocker at half lift position.

Pushrods 3mm too short for best geometry and line up of oiling tracks in rocker.

New cut to length Manson chromoly on order.

Mini wedge 044 installed

90.5mm pistons and cylinders

Installed with a 0.02 shim to set to 0.05 deck height. Sealant on both sides of shim with even spread into chamber to hopefully maximise sealing.

Slight colouring on pistons is following short use on engine previously (test run only)
